Is the Latest Health Trend of The Prepackaged Diet a Good One?
As the clock strikes 4:30pm and you dashing to your car to fetch the kids who need to be bathed, fed, homework checked and shuffled into bed, your mind races to the age old question “What do I cook for supper?” You remember taking something out this morning in between burning the toast and saving the milk from becoming tile polish, but what are you supposed to do with it that will be quick and easy? A new trend answers all these questions – have a fresh, healthy meal delivered to your door! Wow! And now meal planning is as simple as a couple of calls!
Originally, this service was attempted by companies like Lean Cuisine who worked with Weight Watchers and they provide “healthy” meals which have their calorie count specified on the packaging. The idea being that it is a lot quicker and easier to toss a frozen meal into an oven and serve it a couple of minutes later, and true it is, but is it truly healthy? These frozen prepackaged meals contain high amounts of sodium, fructose corn syrup, food coloring and modified ingredients to keep them fresh while they are frozen, these ingredients are far from healthy! Another draw back is that the calorie count is to low and the meal leaves you feeling unfulfilled which results in snacking.
Not all women are able to throw together fresh and healthy meals in a few minutes, and although Lean Cuisine offers meals in a few minutes, they are not healthy meals at all. Fresh prepackaged meals try to bring meals which are fresh and healthy to the busy woman.
Companies like Freshology, Diet-To-Go or Fresh-n-Fit Cuisine realized that the problem is not in the food itself, but in the unhealthy additives which are necessary to keep the food fresh in a frozen state. These companies and others like them, offer freshly prepared meals delivered to your door in their local areas. Other companies like Snap Kitchen or My Fit Foods offer the service of having a freshly prepared meal which you collect on your way home.
Although these are healthier choices for the busy woman, they do come at a price! Freshology costs approximately $45.00 a day and for a week long meal plan from Diet-To-Go you looking at about $158.00.
Go on, spoil yourself! If you can afford it, have a week free from preservatives and free from cooking!
