P90X2 – A Forward Thinking Workout Program

A little over seven years ago P90X debuted as one one of the most forward thinking extreme in home workout programs ever to be introduced to the masses. The idea of pulling together 12 different workouts and criss cross them every few weeks so as to utilize muscle confusion was a new concept to the workout DVD industry.  Since then this system has been copied and replicated by others trying to achieve the same results but coming nowhere near duplicated…..until NOW!

Tony Horton who invented P90X new that his program could only go so far and would leave a group of extremist who were disciples of his workout yearning for more. This is the main reason he decided to introduce P90X2, which is more of a continuation of its predecessor rather than a replacement. P90X2 stands to help the exerciser grow past what they learned from P90X and explore new muscle confusion techniques that Tony has learned since his P90X debut.

True, it is a lot of the same in principal and ideology, but other than those high level similarities it’s very different.  When you look under the hood of P90X2 you’ll find things like P.A.P training or post activation potentiation training. What in the word is PAP training you might be thinking?  It’s a brand new training theory to P90X2, but it’s actually been around for over 30 years. It’s the type of training the Russians used in the late seventies and early eighties to get their Olympiads in the best possible shape. This is just one small morsel of the goodies Tony has ready for us all in P90X2.

P90X2 also has a new spin on traditional cardio. Although it was heavily present in P90X, representing almost 25% of the total program, there is no specific cardio workout in X2. Holy smokes, are you telling me there’s no cardio in P90X2?? That’s not what’s being said here. In fact there’s all kinds of cardio in the program, it’s just tricky to find. You see, Tony decided to weave it throughout the large majority or each workout. So when you least expect it and without even thinking about it, you’re doing cardio right in the middle of something completely contrary to a typical cardio workout. That’s just one of the ways P90X2 is an ingenious program.

The science behind this program is bar none. Dr. Marcus Elliott and his Peak performance project or P3 as it’s also known has teamed up with Tony Horton and the P90X2 project. What Dr. Elliott and his colleagues bring to the table is like nothing else. The research and sports medicine science they have at their finger tips has up until now only been available to world class athletes. This research was used extensively in P90X2 and is a major separating factor between X2 and P90X.
